| Archaeological Resource Assessment of Warwickshire's Aggregates Producing Areas |
|
This project will identify areas potentially able to supply the aggregates we need for development and analyse the archaeology of those areas.
This information will then be used to provide a sound dataset for management and decision-making.
It will also be used to guide future archaeological research as well as in the development of a new minerals development framework for the county |
|
Study Area:
The project will cover the present day county of Warwickshire and Solihull MBC. Solihull was part of historic Warwickshire, and the Archaeology Service in Warwickshire has provided an archaeological planning advice and HER service for the borough since 2000.
The project will focus on those areas that contain (or have in the past contained) geologies exploited for aggregates. |
|
Method:
There are six principal stages to this project:
- Define the extent of all geological deposits that might potentially produce aggregates;
- Define individual study areas on the basis of the geology and the topography of the county;
- Undertake an Archaeological Resource Assessment;
- Identify future research priorities;
- Identify management prescriptions;
- Disseminate the project outcomes.
