This page is part of the archive of community profiles and was written in March 2004.
Inside Hill StreetHill Street Youth & Community Centre is in the heart of Rugby and acts as a base for many groups within the community. The building has been here since the mid 1970’s as a youth club, though before that on this site was the Elborrow School set up in the 1800’s.
The main purpose of Hill Street Youth & Community Centre is to provide facilities for the local community to use. Currently, the centre is used by the Youth Council, Gym for All, Rajput Football & Volley Ball, Duke of Edinburgh Award, our own youth club, Asian Girls Project, Roots & Culture, and local football groups train during the winter to name a few.
Hill Street Coffee BarWithin all the groups that meet here there are a number of chair persons. Hill Street also have their own management committee and the centre manager is Marion Beloe.
The centre is part of the Warwickshire County Council Community Education service and has a well equipped IT centre for use by the community.
Recent work includes the Youth Council who have been involved with the youth conferences, youth parliament elections, and twinning projects.
Hill Street Sports HallComing soon to the centre is the Gym for All group. Who will be running sessions for bouncing bunnies and tumbling tots, which starts in April.
Hill Street have just built their own website profiling these activities and other useful information. The centre hopes the website will promote their facilities to other groups within the community.
