Planning to Adapt to Climate Change - NI 188
 | |
 | Rationale
Warwickshire has set itself a target of level 3 by 2010/11 on the National Indicator NI 188 (Planning to Adapt to Climate Change). This will ensure local authorities are prepared to manage the risks to service delivery, the public, local communities, local infrastructure, businesses and the natural environment from a changing climate, and to make the most of new opportunities. |
 | The indicator measures progress on assessing and managing climate risks and opportunities and incorporating appropriate action into local authority and partners' strategic planning. |
 | Potential Impacts
The impacts might include increases in flooding, average temperature changes, drought and extreme weather events. These could create risks and opportunities such as: impacts to transport infrastructure from melting roads or buckling rails; increases in tourism; increased damage to buidings from storms; impacts on local ecosystems and biodiversity; scope to grow new crops; changing patterns of disease; impacts on planning and the local economy and public health. |

Risk Assessments based on completed impact sheets and workshop outputs, December 2010
These are presented by weather scenario and by risk score. There is a column for the original identifier so that you can tell whether the risk was raised through the impact sheets or at the workshops.

Fire & Rescue
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue full report. (pdf 679 kb) This report investigates possible climate change scenarios, and the challenges for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service (WFRS) that would be associated with them. The effects of increasing temperatures, woodland fires, flooding, drought and storms on Fire and Rescue Services are discussed, the risks are analysed, and possibilities for actions that could reduce these risks for WFRS are suggested.
