The search is on for The Philip Lawrence Awards.

The Philip Lawrence Awards recognise outstanding contributions by groups of young people aged 11 to 20 in their local community. The inspiration for the awards was headteacher Philip Lawrence, murdered as he intervened to save a pupil being attacked outside his school 11 years ago.

If you know of a group of young people aged 11 to 20 who are making a difference to their community, then it's worth finding out whether they qualify for an award. A huge variety of creative, sports and educational activities addressing issues affecting their communities have won in the past, ranging from groups developing:
    Skate parks to youth cafes
    Helplines or newletters to magazines
Conferences and videos to drama productions, plus many other examples
Each of these activities needs to relate to at least one of the 5 core themes:
    combating violence
    promoting community safety
    advancing racial harmony
demonstrating good citizenship or supporting projects through schools
promoting respect and understanding of faiths, cultures and communities internationally
Winning groups will receive cash awards of £1, 000 to invest in developing their award-winning activity which can opent the door to more funding from other sources.
