Compliance and Consumer Protection Compliance Team Consumer safety is one of the service's primary goals, and Trading Standards help ensure that good and services are safe to buy, by testing items, including toys and electrical goods, and by investigating consumer complaints.
The division is also responsible for preventing under aged sales of goods such as cigarettes, alcohol and fireworks and carries out regular undercover enforcement exercises. It is also responsible for petroleum and explosives safety and for legal metrology - ensuring that weighing and measuring equipment is accurate. Consumer Protection Team This team is responsible for clamping down on the activities of rogue traders and detecting and stopping scams and other forms of fraudulent trading. The division uses new powers to deal with problem businesses. It deals with a broad range of trading standards legislation relating to services, including internet trading, Package Travel Regulations and a number of other service related topics.
