Workplace

As technology gets better and less expensive, more and more people have the opportunity to work from home.

Warwickshire County Council are always looking at ways of reducing the amount of traffic congestion in the area, and working from home is one way of managing this.

The Work-Life Balance

Worklife Balance is about balancing your work and home life so that you can meet your responsibilities and aspirations in both areas of your life. It is about juggling the priorities not struggling with them.

If you want to work from home, think about what work you could take home and whether you have the facilities to do it. If you wish to change your start and finish time, think about how this will affect the rest of the staff. Then talk to your manager about Flexible Working.

Workplace

Flexible working offers benefits to both businesses and employees:

  • Improved productivity - surveys repeatedly show that companies adopting flexible working practices are achieving improvements of up to 40%
  • A reduction in fixed operating costs by the scaling down or eliminating of a central office
  • Staff recruitment and retention can also improve. Many workers spend more than 30% of their working day travelling to and from work and a more flexible approach to working hours and locations allows employees to achieve a better balance of work and family life.
  • If you leave the car at home for just one five- mile journey a week you could save £200 a year. (Cutting Your Car Use)
  • If just half of Britain’s motorists left their car at home one day a week then traffic congestion and pollution could be cut by 10%. (Lift Share)
  • On average, 15% of household spending is on transport, almost as much as on food or housing. (The Stationery Office)
  • Stay healthy by regularly walking or cycling. These activities reduce risks of coronary heart disease by up to 50% and stroke by 66%. (Department of Health)
