Do you want to grow your customer base and win new business?
FREE Business Opportunities Workshop with Business Link West Midlands, at Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday 2nd March 2011
Over £400m-worth of contracts have already been awarded to businesses based in the West Midlands as a result of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to the UK.
There have been contracts of varying sizes won by businesses both large and small through the CompeteFor website. Of the direct Olympic contracts that have already been won, 76% have been secured by small and medium-sized businesses.

They have ranged from construction, fencing, flooring, seating and safety equipment contracts to cleaning, software, security, event management and consultancy contracts. So whatever the nature or size of your business - there are opportunities to be won.

With just under 2 years to go there is still £500m-worth of contracts to be awarded in a huge number of areas and the bulk of these contracts will be awarded over the next 12 months, so time is limited if you want to be in with a chance to access these opportunities.

To help businesses find out what opportunities are available and how they can access them, Business Link is running a FREE workshop organised by Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.

Venue: Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber, Oak Tree Court, Binley Business Park, Coventry, CV3 2UN
Date:
Wednesday 2nd March 2011

Quality Assurance Schemes

A quality assurance rating provides an independent assessment of what a guest can expect to find. Whatever the size of accommodation or the facilities offered, it gives an invaluable guarantee that a guest's stay will meet expectations and be of high quality.

Accommodation
Please note that Visit Britain as well as Warwickshire County Council only promote accommodation that has been Quality Assured.

Quality in Tourism is the assessment service provider for Visit Britain. It offers a national quality assurance standard across a range of accommodation, including luxury hotels, small B&Bs, holiday cottages, holiday parks, hostels and even visitor attractions.

The AA also offers a full accommodation grading service and is fully recognised by Visit Britain.

Tourism Attractions
Visit Britain also offer a Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Service. Launched in 2001 the scheme plays an important role in helping to identify business strengths as well as also highlighting development areas, based on industry standards. See www.vaqas.org.uk for details.

National Accessible Scheme - **Joining fee waived for 2009/10!**

Can you afford to turn away paying guests? Even if your business has steps to the front door or no ground floor bedrooms, there are easy things you can do to ensure your business is as accessible as possible.

Brown Signs in Warwickshire

The tourist industry has long recognised the benefits of adequate and distinctive signs for visitors and tourists. Brown tourist signs help visitors to find the attraction as well as promoting the attraction to potential visitors.

There are two authorities that control signs:
  • The Highways Agency controls eligibility for brown signs on national trunk road networks (which includes most motorways).
  • Local Authorities have their own policies on the provision of brown signs on local roads (i.e. all roads other than trunk roads). Brown Tourism Signs in Warwickshire.

Visitor Economy Strategy

The Coventry and Warwickshire Visitor Economy Strategy 2005 - 2009 (PDF - 1.5 MB) is positioned as a Visitor Economy Strategy rather than a Tourism Strategy. It is the recognition that Tourism is as much about attracting people who live locally as it is about attracting people from far away. It details the strategy for 2005-2009.

Refer to policies within the VES when making applications to funding, or for planning purposes. This will tie you into the strategy for the sub-region and give you a better chance of your application being successful.
