Road Safety - Drivers And Riders
Expect the Unexpected - Look out for motorcycles

How often have you been driving along thinking you’re aware of other traffic then suddenly realised that a motorcyclist is alongside you?

It makes you go cold doesn’t it?

You know how easy it would have been to cause an accident.

Motorcyclists represent less than 1% of road traffic yet they account for almost 18% of deaths and serious injuries and, though riders can be at fault, motorists are frequently the cause.

Remember, in a collision, motorcycle riders are 40 times more likely to be killed than car drivers so:
  • At junctions, take a moment longer to look for motorcycles.
  • Check your mirrors regularly and before manoeuvring.
  • Give motorcyclists as much room as you would a car.
  • Be aware of the blind spots in your car.
  • Even when you’re parked, check before opening your car door.

Think! Take longer to look for bikes
