Parking

On-Street Parking Penalties

Higher level contraventions – Firmer Enforcement

For offences where parking is not normally allowed e.g. on double yellow lines, in a permit zone without displaying a valid permit, or in a disabled bay when a valid blue badge is not displayed, the higher level penalty will be up from the current level of £60 to £70! (reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days* of issue)

It is anticipated that around 30% of penalties will be at this higher rate!

Lower level contraventions – Fairer Enforcement

A lower level penalty £50 will be imposed where the contravention is not so serious, e.g. where the motorist overstays the time allowed, or commits another contravention such as not parking wholly within a parking bay. (£25 if payment received within 14 days*)

Around 70% of penalties are expected to be issued at this lower rate!

Therefore, overall, drivers who contravene regulations can expect to pay less than currently!

(Note* The discount period is extended to 21 days if the penalty charge notice could not be served at the time of the contravention, and therefore it is served by post!)

Please note that should a penalty not be paid within the prescribed period, see details on the penalty charge notice, and a charge certificate is issued, you will be liable to pay at least 50% more than the original penalty charge! Either £75 or £105

These changes are being made in line with the Secretary of State for Transport Statutory Guidance 2007 and Part 6 the Traffic Management Act 2004.
