Power Academy wins AWM funding agreement
Warwickshire College is delighted to have received the agreement on funding which means a Power Academy can be built as part of its new college in Rugby.
The go-ahead, with some conditions which still have to be finalised, has come about through the college, Rugby Borough Council and Advantage West Midlands working successfully in partnership.
The Power Academy will be part of the new Warwickshire College Rugby Centre, closely linked to Converteam and Alstom Power, and being at the heart of training technicians for the power industry, with a focus on turbines and carbon friendly power generation.
Advantage West Midlands (AWM) has agreed the funding of £6.3 million. It means work can now start on clearing the land and building the new college off Leicester Road.
Principal of Warwickshire College Ioan Morgan said: "This is great news for Warwickshire College and for Rugby. This means we are on target to receive students in 2010 into a fantastic new college which will be at the heart of economic development for Rugby."
Cllr Neil Campbell, Rugby Borough Council Cabinet Member for Economy and Development, said: "This is amongst the best news Rugby has had for many years. Rugby will be getting the best college of Further Education in the country, along with a superb research facility for local industry, in the form of the Power Academy. Best of all, many of the facilities will be open for the local communities to use." |
