The Heritage Lottery Fund will be launching their 2008 - 2013 Strategic Plan in April 2008. Whilst the main grants programmes will continue, new application materials and application procedures will be introduced. As a result there are a number of deadlines applicable to the current programmes. Further information on their new Strategic Plan can be found on their website.
HFL rogrammes include:
Your Heritage - grants for conservation and access projects worth £5,000 to £50,000 with a simple application pack and decision promised within three months of receipt of application. The total cost of the project can be up to £100,000. No minimum partnership funding required but there should be some contribution either in cash or in kind.
Heritage Grants - can make awards of £50,000 and over. Partnership funding is generally required, 10% of project costs for grants requests of up to £10million and 25% for grant requests of more than £10 million. Please note that applications of £5 million or more must be able to show the regional or national benefits they will produce. Grants of this size are assessed in competitive batches twice a year via a two-stage process which has now closed. New application materials will be available from April 2008. If you plan to apply for a grant of £5 million or more, you must contact HLF before filling in or sending in the application form.
Young Roots – to promote the involvement of 13-20 years olds in their heritage. Grants between £5,000 and £25,000 are available to support exciting and innovative projects targeted at the needs and interests of young people.
Projects should be delivered through partnerships between a heritage organisation and a youth organisation.
Repair Grants for Places of Worship in England - all faith groups and denominations can apply; however, you must be a formally constituted religious organisation. The place of worship must be a listed building and used for worship at least six times a year. Grants from £10,000 up to £200,000 are available for urgent, high level structural repairs and to conserve and sustain heritage at risk. Application materials for the 2008-2009 programme will be available from April 2008 with the following deadlines for the submission of applications:
Grade I and II* by 30 June 2008.
Grade II by 30 September 2008 .

Parks for People – grants from £250,000 up to £5 million are available for the restoration and regeneration of historic parks and gardens, including urban squares and cemeteries. Projects should enhance public access and may involve improving facilities. Applications are assessed through a two-stage process. Stage one decisions are made in competitive batches twice a year. Applicants must raise at least 25% of your project costs from other sources, either as cash or non-cash contributions. At least 5% of this partnership funding must be cash from the applicants own resources.
Landscape Partnerships – to help partnerships representing a range of heritage and community interests tackle the needs of landscapes whose various elements may be in different ownership. Areas must have a strong landscape identity. Grants will be between £250,000 - £2m. Applications are assessed competitively twice a year. New application materials will be available from April 2008.
Townscape Heritage Initiative - provides grants to local partnerships to carry out repairs and other works to historic properties in a defined area. The scheme is designed to benefit areas of particular social and economic deprivation to assist in their regeneration. The 2007 programme has now closed. New application materials will be available from April 2008 with a deadline for stage one applications of 30 November 2008.
