 | Warwick District Adult Community Learning Forum |
 | This page is part of the archive of community profiles and was written in June 2004.
The Warwick District Adult Community Learning Forum (WDACLF) was established around 3 years ago to address the learning needs in Warwick district. In association with numerous groups in the area, the forum is designed to enable learning and skills development in the adult community.
Local group members include the County Council, the Learning and Skills Council and Coventry and Warwickshire Learning partnership. Many other local groups have also become involved including further education colleges, the Council for Voluntary Service and Warwickshire Careers Service. The most important group to be involved so far are, of course, the local learners. |
 | The group has five main aims which are to:
- Provide relevant and interesting learning opportunities for local people
- Ensure that learning opportunities are planned in a coherent way, avoid duplication and are complimentary to all strategies of the Local Authority
- Advocate for and support community organisations to play an active part in the learning and skills agenda
- Champion the needs and aspirations of people and communities to access relevant learning opportunities
- Empower local people and communities to identify and achieve their own learning needs and aspirations
These are being met through a number of local events, programmes and initiatives. |
 | Recently, this included Adult Learners Week activity (15 –21th May 2004).
Many organisations put on activities in Adult Learners Week to give people a flavour of what is possible. It aimed to show that learning can be fun. The week culminated in a Time to Try event at the Pump Rooms in Leamington where organisations came together to allow people to see what they could offer. There were also several taster sessions. These included nail art, flower arranging, line dancing and hanging baskets.
The creation of the paper version of the Warwick District ACL Directory was launched at Lillington Library on 3rd December 2003. This gives people interested in learning details of their opportunities in the Warwick district.
The group is currently chaired by Peter Lovelock, Warwick Area Community Education Officer and Yvonne Walkey, Adult Community Learning Co-ordinator. Yvonne says: "This directory has information on all the major organisations offering learning opportunities in the district. The directory is divided into areas, subject areas and organisations. This is a really valuable resource”
The directory should be now available in all libraries and community centres. You can contact Yvonne on 01926 738582 for more information or your copy.
The Warwick District Adult Community Learning Directory website (designed to complement the paper version) is now available allowing learners the opportunity to search for and find their local learning providers and see photos of recent events. The site can be found here: www.warkcom.net/wdaclf and includes contact information for both the learning providers and the WDACLF. |
