Warwickshire Sites and
Monuments Record (SMR)
Functions of the SMR
What do we do?
- maintain and enhance the Sites and Monuments Record (SMR)
a continual process of updating the SMR with new sites or archaeological excavations and adding to already existing records
- operate a public information service
the information is a resource open to everyone, whether academic or personal research
- provide information
to planning archaeologists and consultants, government bodies such as English Heritage, forestry and agricultural bodies, the public utilities, local research groups, landowners and developers
- actively promote local archaeology
to the community through lectures, local history fairs and open days
