FAQs (frequestly asked questions)

The County Arts Service (CAS) have complied a list of questions with answers that team members are asked frequently. If you have further questions that are not answered below, please contact CAS on countyartsservice@warwickshire.gov.uk or 01926 412492.

1. What can the County Arts Service (CAS) do for me?

County Arts Service provides a range of services to Warwickshire residents and groups. We can:
  • Help with funding queries (funding directly from us is very limited)
  • Support project development
  • Can signpost to local, regional and national organisations relevant and beneficial to you or your group
  • Can provide a wealth of knowledge around areas such as: community arts, arts development, arts and health, public art, business practice and art forms
  • Support artistic and cultural audience development
  • Support artistic and cultural organisational development
2. How can I get involved in Warwickshire Artsweek 2010?

Warwickshire Artsweek is run by a committee that is separate from the County Arts Service. You can find all the information about Artsweek, including how to get involved, prices, locations etc on their website: Warwickshire Artsweek 2010

Warwickshire Artsweek runs once every other year, and the next Artsweek will run from 3rd – 18th July 2010. Please note that the deadline for registering for Artsweek is 1st March 2010.

3. Where does the County Arts Service sit within Warwickshire County Council?

The County Arts Service sits within the Communities and Wellbeing division of the Adult, Health and Community Services Directorate of the County Council.

We are part of the wider arts service delivered by the council, which includes the Youth Arts Service, Arts in Warwickshire Education and County Music Service who sit within the Children, Young People and Families Directorate.

Please read our Joint Arts Policy for more information on the services we deliver separately in the form of case studies, and for our joint policy statement.

4. Where can I find funding for an arts project?

County Arts Service does not provide funding for projects. What we can do is help with funding queries you may have and signpost you to relevant local, regional and national funding streams. It is worth having a look at our funding pages: Funding for Arts Projects.

5. I am looking for an artist with a certain skill and experience of working with a particular group of people, where can I look?

It is not CAS policy to recommend artists. Therefore, we have a user-led database of artists, the Contact! Database where information is inputted by a diverse array of artists and arts organisations online if they work or are willing to work in Warwickshire. This system allows you to browse artists and contact them yourself. The inclusion of artists and arts organisations on this database does not mean CAS endorse or have worked with the artists before.

We recommend that if you wish to employ an artist you check their references, CRBs and public liability insurance before employing them. You could also think about advertising the position, free of charge, on Arts Council England’s jobs site which has a national remit and is very well utilised by the arts community.

6. I wish to employ an artist or arts organisation, but am not sure how to go about this.

CAS can advise on best practice when employing artists/ arts organisations.

It is good practice to ensure a full brief, outlining the exactly what you expect the artist/ arts org to deliver, including fees and timescales is given to the artist/ arts org before project delivery commences.

You should also ensure that your role as employer is stated clearly and includes any responsibilities that you will take for the project, such as providing a venue.

You should look to contract your artist/ organisation, which should include the Project brief as appendix A and should be agreed and signed by both yourself and your artist/ arts organisation. This will ensure security for both yourself as employer and artist as employee. Please see Employing Artists and Arts Organisations for more information.

7. How much should I pay an artist or arts organisation?

Arts Council England provide national guidance on how to pay artists.

8. I am looking for arts jobs in Warwickshire and the surrounding area. Where can I look?

It is rare that the County Arts Service advertise vacancies, both for freelancers or internal recruitment.

However, you can email: countyartsservice@warwickshire.gov.uk and ask to be put on the mailing list to receive future mailouts which include opportunities, events and exhibitions in Warwickshire.

Arts Council England’s job site is well-utilised and contains job adverts for a plethora of different art forms and positions:
www.artsjobs.org.uk

9. I am a visual artist new to the county. How can I find galleries or spaces to exhibit my work?

Galleries in Warwickshire is a comprehensive list of public and private galleries in Warwickshire.
Galleries outside Warwickshire is a comprehensive list of public and private galleries outside Warwickshire.

Gallery Finder is an online resource that enables you to search for galleries, museums and arts centres across the UK.
