Who is Community Transport for?

These webpages are to assist anyone facing some kind of transport barrier that prevents them from accessing essential services or employment. Use them to investigate any community transport services operating in your area that could help them find a solution.

Community transport schemes aim to help those:

  • With a mobility problem or disability that makes it difficult to use other forms of transport
  • Who are not able to access the service they need using ordinary public transport
  • Who may be geographically isolated or lack access to private transport
  • Unable to access employment opportunities, at risk of social exclusion
  • Individuals or groups who would otherwise find travel unaffordable
Start your search by linking to the webpage covering the borough or district where you live: The importance of being able to reach essential services is summed up in the introduction to the County’s Accessibility Strategy:

“..the ability of people to access places of work, learning, health care, shopping, leisure and exercise, and other opportunities can significantly impact on their quality of life, and on their opportunities in life.”

People may be more interested in what community transport services can offer them at some times of their lives than at others. Whilst we will work to ensure they continue providing much needed travel opportunities for their largest groups of users – older people and those living with with mobility problems – it is a mistake to believe they are exclusive. If they can they will help anyone at any time looking for solutions to the situations we’ve described above.

Note: Because of the way they are funded, most community transport schemes do not accept payment using the Concessionary Fares Scheme passes issued by Districts and Borough Councils. Those that do will normally state it in their publicity.
