The construction of Rugby Western Relief Road has posed a number of problems, including the movement of material from the southern end of the job to the north - roughly 30,000 cubic metres of earth. It was planned that this would go through the centre of Rugby. However this would have had a huge impact on the town and may have lengthened the project by another year. Therefore, Carillion, the contractors, created a route through the actual line of the relief road to avoid impact on the centre of Rugby. This avoided 7,500 lorry journeys through Rugby. Carillion put in a temporary bridge in order to cross the river Sow. They also changed the programme of the work to build a roundabout sooner. The lorries now take the line of the Rugby Western Relief Road, so it doesn't have any impact on the surrounding roads. |
