 | The programme has been running for seven years in Warwickshire. At present students in primary and secondary schools are supported in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT.
The students attend one session each week, which are mainly held in the home in small groups.
The aim of this programme is to improve the basic skills of literacy, numeracy and to promote family learning.
This programme seeks to establish the ‘educational scaffolding’ to support individuals to raise literacy and numeracy, to access qualifications and promote self-confidence. The success that the pupils will gain from the programme, will help to improve organisational skills, self-confidence and raise self-esteem and attainment.
Students are recommended for the programme by the participating schools. Parents will be informed and visited by one of the team to explain what is involved in their child’s commitment to the programme.
Tutors work with the school and the family to deliver suitable, individual support. Tutors complete a written report for each student after each session. Copies of this are sent to the family, the school and the programme office. This is one of the ways in which progress in monitored. Base line data is also available on each child on the programme database.
At the end of each year, each school hold a presentation evening, where the work of the students and the tutors is celebrated.
In this way, education is looked on as something the whole family can be involved in.
The programme is commissioned by Positive about Young People, who work with, and support, young people throughout Warwickshire.
