New Roundabout for Access to Residential Development |
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council granted Persimmon Homes North Midlands Limited planning permission for a housing development off Smorrall Lane, Bedworth. A condition of the permission granted calls for a means of secondary access off Astley Lane, via a small roundabout. The roundabout is located on Astley Lane at its existing junction with Himley Road. The scheme was wholly funded by Persimmon Homes North Midlands Limited.
The works consisted of constructing a new four leg roundabout on line with Astley Lane which included a dedicated leg to Himley Road and link in to the residential development of Persimmon Homes, known locally as Eliot Gardens. The scheme also included closing the southern egress of Himley Road with the construction of a new turning head. A Traffic Regulation Order for the Prohibition of Driving has already been advertised to allow the closure to take place. The existing street lighting system on Astley Lane has also be upgraded and cyclyeway / footway facilities provided. The works included some minor service diversions for overhead electricity cables and protection to a water main.
The works also included up-grading of the existing street lighting system at the junction of Smorrall Lane, Dark Lane and Astley Lane.
The contract for the highway works was carried out by Carillion Highway Maintenance Limited and was completed on the 18th August 2006.
