When the County Council decides to construct Civil Engineering Works, tenders are invited from contractors on the Select List of Contractors. The List applies when the cost of the works is less than the EU limit, which is currently £3.5 Million.
A new Select List is produced every five years. At the beginning of the process adverts are placed inviting applications. Further applications will not be considered during the five year period.

Contractors who have applied for inclusion are assessed against stringent financial and quality requirements stipulated by the County Council. The new Select List operates from 23rd January 2008 and further details can be obtained from the Cabinet Report dated 10th January 2008. Appendix A referred to in the Cabinet Report can be seen here.

Construction of Highways, Bridges, Maintenance of Bridges, over £0.5 million up to EU Limit.
Construction of Highways, up to £1 million.
Construction, Maintenance of Bridges, up to £0.5 million.
Maintenance of Bridges over Railways, up to £0.5 million.
Underwater and Confined Space Inspections and Maintenance of Bridges.
Painting of Bridges.
Materials Testing for Highways, Bridges.
