Dear Mr. Evans

I wish all my Jointure money & Mr. Clements to be paid through Mr. Dawsons hands. I believe it is to be settled in a different way for greater security. I can not afford to give his Lordship a present of 500£ which is what he owes for the children & that must be settled for me some how whatever arrangements I might feel inclined to make for the future I was not told I was not to be paid & as I wish to be honest & pay my bills I can not give up that sum I was led to expect it & of course have used it. I have placed all my affairs in Mr. Dawsons hands & shall abide by his advice - I am perfectly certain his Lordship is going from bad to worse & nothing can be done to stop him I have tried the Trustees & every way I can think of I believe he can not touch ornamental timber I want to secure the things small as they are at the Friars. There is I hope& believe no bills of sale on them I have written to Mr. Dawson to see if I took the Friars on on a longer lease if that wd be of avail ------ let it. I do not see how I am to live there on 2000£ a yr
What do you think I am sorry not to do so but it is very hard not to have a carriage in the country & I do not think I could keep a man servant or I should never have a spare 100£ to go abroad or take any amusement
Many thanks to you & Mrs. Evans for yr kind sympathy in my trouble & sorrow You know full well how I loved the place & what grief it is to me to see the son who I loved so dearly & who was such a dear boy grow up into what he has & showing such an example to all. It is far worse than if he had died innocent & good - I fear he is going to get into much worse trouble abt [?] this c---

Yrs very truly
