Sustainable Development in Learning

Sustainable Development and, in particular Environmental Sustainability are important aspects of learning in schools and the policies and practice of the County Council, its employees and its working relationships with partners.

Eco Schools
Eco-Schools is an international programme. Over 34% of schools currently participate in the Eco-Schools programme, 30% already have awards including the prestigious Green Flag, which is the top award. Schools undertake projects, for example, about water, transport and recycling. Eco-Schools contribute to Warwickshire Healthy Schools Programme

Environmental Recreation
The Council provides resources for Environmental Education. Education and Planning, Transport and Economic Strategy departments collaborate to provide resources for teachers and learners. Our county parks are a source for learning.
Eco-WCC
The Council's pages on environment and planning offer an easy introduction to our policies for sustainability, regeneration, recycling and rubbish. They describe our natural environment.

Partnerships
The Council works with a range of partners to promote good practice. Severn Trent Water support our Eco-Schools project and offer learning and education centres for local school visits.

Cleanaway Landscapes are the Council's contractor for grounds maintenance services to 50 of its school grounds and all libraries and non-school sites. The Environmental considerations and projects are an important part of the contract.
Sustainable Development and Links
The Council's pages explain the strategy and balance of social, economic, environmental and resource needs. Warwickshire County Council is leading the way and you can help.
Creates is an Arts Zone Project in partnership with 'Trees are Green'. Appropriate local industrial waste is collected and stored. Artists then work with children in schools to recycle the materials and inspire children's creativity.
