Traffic Management - 26 April 2010

Traffic Management - 9 April 2010

During work on Banbury Road it has been discovered that large sections of the road are in very poor shape. The road is in such poor condition that we (Warwickshire County Council) have no choice but to carry-out immediate and substantial repairs.

Due to unexpected poor ground conditions, 3-way traffic lights will be required 24 hours a day until Monday 26 April.

Warwickshire County Council would like to apologise for the disruption that this work will cause and would like to assure you that all measures are being taken to carry-out the work as efficiently as possible so to keep the duration of the lights to a minimum.

Traffic Management - 18 March 2010

Work on the traffic signal junction is progressing to the next phase of construction which will result in the closure of the existing junction of Heathcote Lane and Banbury Road. From 23 March traffic will instead be directed to use the newly constructed road. A plan showing the new road layout is shown.

Traffic Management - 25 February 2010

Narrow lanes marked out by traffic cones and cylinders are being used on Banbury Road to allow work to take place safely in the land adjacent to the road.

It has been necessary to use 2-way temporary traffic lights on Banbury road to make it safe for the workforce due to the persistent high speeds of vehicles along this road.

We anticipate using 2-way temporary traffic lights off-peak on Banbury Road from the 8th March to begin work on widening the Western side of Banbury Road.

Progress Updates - 13 January 2010

Before Christmas good progress was made however, work in January has been very slow due to the inclement weather.

Trees and vegetation along Banbury Road were trimmed in preparation for the construction work.

Work off the carriageway began with removing the topsoil. Archaeologists carried out a survey of the area and discovered a number of musket balls along with other small artefacts. You can view some of the items found below.

The foundations of the new road have now been largely installed.

Heavy snow in recent weeks has slowed the progress of the works, with works stopping for almost 2 weeks as a result of the heavy snow and freezing temperatures.

It is anticipated that normal operations should resume on site by the end of January.

Background - 24 November 2009

The scheme is to install traffic signals at this location to improve the capacity and relieve congestion at the junction.

To allow for the installation of traffic signals at this junction Heathcote Lane will be re-aligned.

The £800,000 improvement will start at the end of November and is expected to take approximately 5 months to complete. Traffic Management

During the works it is anticipated that there will be activities of construction requiring the use of traffic management. Traffic management which restricts traffic flow on site will be limited to mainly off-peak hours only. Warwickshire County Council and Alun Griffiths Contractors will endeavour to restrict the disruption to a minimum throughout the works.
