As the Government becomes the biggest user of ICT in the UK - spending around £12 billion a year - Government IT Goes Green will take a comprehensive look at the challenges and opportunities for public sector organisations looking to take a more responsible approach to the environment. The event will pull together the key areas of transformational government and sustainable IT management, and will focus on critical issues including energy efficiency, the increased uptake of mobile working, best value and sustainable procurement practice and the recycling and re-use of electrical equipment. Events Listing BHA Annual Conference, Wed 17 – Thrs 18 September, Bristol
This British Hydropower Association event will incorporate a technical exhibition and gala dinner. Keynote speakers from the UK Government and the hydro industry will open the conference and participate in a panel discussion about how hydro power is likely to take the centre stage in the power arena. Events Listing Watts 2008, Tues 23 September, Cardiff
Annual Wave & Tidal Symposium and dinner organised by the Renewable Energy Association (REA). The EU has allocated the UK a 15% target for renewable energy contribution by 2020. With current polices set to deliver only 5% within that timescale, a ten fold increase in renewables output in just 12 years is required. This symposium, followed by conference dinner, will explore the potential for including 'the virtually untapped resource of Marine Renewable energy' in the UK energy mix. This year's themes will include: deployment of Marine devices and connection to the grid, coinciding with the actual deployment of operational devices by Pelamis and Marine Current Turbine; regional and devolved administration; Severn Barrage. This event is jointly sponsored by the Met Office Hadley Centre and the University of Exeter, and is aimed at discussing the evolving impacts of climate change and the issues of adaptation in a time of ongoing change. Events Listing Futurescape08: Emerging technologies - shaping future learning for the built environment sector, Thur 16 – Fri 17 October, London
Futurescape08 is led by the Architecture Centre Network and CABE, with academic partner, London Knowledge Lab (Birkbeck and Institute of Education). Issues under investigation range from curriculum change, to school design and future technology evolutions. An emphasis on opportunities for learning through CAD modelling, embedded technologies and hand-held devices will be explored in practical sessions. An artists’ showcase will profile recent collaborations between creative practitioners, architecture and new technologies. The event is aimed at teachers and education researchers; Arts, museum and built environment educators; Education policy makers; Creative industry professionals, architects and artists.
