 | Jephson Gardens in snow - A large tree with a circular temple behind
The circular temple is of Grecian architecture with Corinthain pillars and has a marble statue of Dr. Henry Jephson inside beneath its dome.
The parks originated in the 1940's when the present town's gardens were extended and improved. This was combined with a need to create a testimonial to Dr. Henry Jephson, who was a leading figure in the town's early 19th Century expansion as a health spa.
The refurbished Jephson Gardens opened to the public in June 1847 and the temple was officially unveiled in May 1849, while Dr. Jephson was still alive.
Famously, the circular temple features on the front of Moseley Shoals, a 1996 album by the British rock group Ocean Colour Scene, which was released during the height of the Britpop era.
