The purpose of the Waste Development Framework is to make sufficient land available in the most sustainable locations to enable waste operating companies to provide adequate facilities to dispose of waste in Warwickshire. Before the County Council can identify specific sites there has to be an agreed strategy that determines the broad approach to waste disposal.
Waste Development Framework - more information.
The Preferred options stage of the consultation ended on 11th October 2006. The responses received will be considered in the preparation of the submission. Details of the timetable for the next stage of consultation will appear here shortly.
As a result of advice from Government Office West Midlands rather than moving towards submission it has been necessary to return to the issues and options stage and to consult on a number of revised spatial options. Consultation on the Waste Core Strategy - revised spatial options was planned for June 2008. In parallel to work on the Waste Core Strategy, the County Council is working with sub-regional partners, Coventry City Council and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, in bringing forward a share residual waste treatment facility known as "Project Transform". This work is in the early stages with an Outline Business Case submitted to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for PFI credits at the end of October. Therefore, in order to ensure that any spatial planning implications in Warwickshire of a joint facility are incorporated into the Waste Core Strategy, the planned consultation has been delayed. It is expected that a revised timetable for the work on the Waste Core Strategy will be available in Spring 2009. The Minerals and Waste Development Scheme
will be amended to reflect this change.

Minerals Development Framework - more information
The Issues and Options stage of the consultation ended on the 8th September 2006. The next stage is the Preferred Options stage. The Preferred Options consultation ran from 31st January 2007 until 14th March 2007.
The Minerals Local Development Framework was temporarily put on hold after the preferred options stage following general advice from Communities and Local Government and the Planning Inspectorate that strategic sites should be included as part of the Core Strategy. Consequently the Minerals and Waste Development Scheme has been revised and it is now proposed that the minerals industry and landowners will be asked to suggest future potential sites over the summer of 2008. This will lead to a revised core strategy issues and options document identifying sites to be published for consultation in January 2009.
