About Project Presentia
It is a two-year project which aims to address the issue of truancy involving pupils aged 12 to 16 years old, across areas of all four participating countries.
Participating in this Project are Education Professionals from four European Countries. It is being headed by Cartagena in Spain. The three other European countries involved are Italy (Caltagirone and Gela), Sweden (Goteborg) and England (Warwickshire).
Each country brings with it a specialist area of expertise/experience, with statistical and data analysis being Warwickshire's. | |

| Aims of Presentia |
Project Presentia has four main aims:
- The creation of a document outlining the current problems, practice and methods of intervention in each country.
- The production of an interactive CD Rom, containing this information in all four languages of the partnership.
- The compilation of a modular training programme for teachers, to be delivered in a pilot programme in each country, building on amalgamated Best Practice from all partnership countries.
- The creation of a web page to host all components of the project (as above), which will be kept up to date after the project ends by adding further examples of Best Practice from within each partner country.

Warwickshire LA first in UK to successfully pilot unique European truancy project
The first meeting of the European funded PRESENTIA project took place in Cartagena, Spain in January. Education professionals from four EU countries (Spain, England, Italy and Sweden) met over two days to discuss truancy reduction for 12 to 16 year olds. Amongst the issues highlighted were the differences in the legal powers available to the different participants in tackling truancy, the impact of rural deprivation and the special needs of students from traveller and gypsy families. The project will concentrate on improving school resources to address the needs of pupils with poor attendance and will include the creation of a shared euro-handbook for school staff providing examples of Good Practice from across the EU and a new web site. The project team will also be offering teaching staff and other education professionals from across Warwickshire the opportunity to take part in a training course on how best to use the materials. |
