| Fairtrade aims to give growers in disadvantaged parts of the world a fair price for their products.
All too often profits of the sale of tea, coffee, chocolate, bananas, etc, are eaten up by multi-national companies and the growers end up with very little return for their work.
Buying Fairtrade goods helps these communities improve their standard of life and helps them survive in an ever increasingly competitive world market.
“Fairtrade is the reason that the small farmers in our association still have a livelihood at all. The most important effect of Fairtrade is the feeling that we can challenge the dependence on the big companies with all those inequalities… We, small producers, have changed things and you can see the difference.”
