Inspecting for Race Equality.
Training in inspecting for race equality was recently delivered to all Her Majesty's Inspectors, and to representatives of our partner Regional Inspection Providers (RISPs). The training is now being extended to the Additional Inspectors who work within the RISPs to deliver school and college inspections.
OfSTED’s revised Race Equality Scheme (RES) was published in September 2006. Like all publicly funded bodies, we have a duty to promote equality and good race relations. Training for Inspectors is part of our RES Action Plan. The training focused on schools' and local authorities' duties under the race relations legislation, inspecting the impact of a school's race equality policy on outcomes for pupils, and judging whether a school is responding to the spirit of the law in a proactive manner which benefits children and young people.
Race equality duties apply in all schools. Taken from e-newsletter OfSTED Direct, Sping 2007
