Advice for Retailers
Mark Ryder, Head of Warwickshire Trading Standards, said:
"We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Bonfire Night and to that end we are determined to ensure that fireworks do not fall into the hands of children. The small minority of irresponsible traders who think that they can sell fireworks to under 18's should consider themselves warned."
Warwickshire Trading Standards
It is illegal to sell fireworks to anyone under the age of 18 years.
Trading Standards enforce the legislation controlling the sale and safety of fireworks. It also registers retailers who store and sell fireworks.
Trading Standards Officers will be visiting retailers registered to sell fireworks to ensure they know the law.
An under-age sale investigation will be conducted. Anyone caught selling fireworks to those under 18 will face prosecution (the maximum fine is £5,000).
