The Community Safety Team works across the county council supporting the development and delivery of the Corporate Community Safety Policy, the Crime and Disorder Reduction Strategy and the Local Area Agreement. The team is primarily involved in work to tackle crime, the fear of crime and the causes of crime, and includes the work of the Drug and Alcohol Action Team and Warwickshire Against Domestic Abuse.
As part of the corporate approach to crime and disorder reduction and following the statutory requirement of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, the unit is also involved in supporting the work of the four Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships in partnership with the Police, Police Authority, the five District and Borough Councils and Primary Care Trust.
Warwickshire is one of the safest counties in which to live. However the fear of crime is disproportionately high. Some areas of the county have higher than average levels of crime compared to others and there are pockets of deprivation requiring a more targeted approach. The team continues to develop local action plans in partnership with each of the Community Forums targeting specific crime problems that affect communities.
