Building a Successful Future |
New
BUILDERS HAVE MOVED ONTO THE VILLAGE CENTRE SITE TO START WORK ON THE NEW COMMUNITY BUILDING.
Work began in January to level the site in preparation for building work on the £2.5 million facility. New fencing has also been erected around the site.
Following the completion of the leveling, work will commence to dig the trenches and lay foundations. This is expected to take place during February and March.
Work on the frame will start later in the year, with a view to completing the entire building by January 2007.
| The Learning and Skills Council has given £1 million towards the cost of the community building. Warwickshire County Council will run the building.
Meanwhile things are also set to get physical elsewhere in Camp Hill with news that planning permission has been submitted for the whole of the Phase Two development. This means, once planning permission has been gained, work on the shops and homes planned around the village centre can start in 2006.

Background
The massive regeneration of a deprived area of Nuneaton has taken a major step forward now Pride in Camp Hill has named the project’s preferred developer for work to the tune of £24 million.
In a key milestone, Pride in Camp Hill, based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, has named regeneration specialist Lovell as its preferred developer to take forward Phase Two of its plans to regenerate one of the most deprived wards in Warwickshire.
Subject to planning consent, Lovell will now be responsible for building a new thriving heart to the area, with a 233-home mixed tenure housing scheme including homes for affordable rent and shared ownership and for open market sale, the build and letting of new retail units and the construction of new community buildings.
Following full planning approval, work to build the community facilities will start in January 2006 and is expected to last 50 weeks. The total Village Centre works is to take in excess of four years to complete.
Resident Ann Corbett said: “This is good news for residents as it shows things are moving forward. The residents have been waiting for things to happen and this shows that things we’ve been promised, such as the exciting new shops and community facilities, will become reality. That’s what we hope.”

| Colin Ball, project director at Pride in Camp Hill, said: “Lovell presented us not only with the most imaginative design solutions for the Village Centre area, through the open tendering process, but also the best value for money too.
“We are pleased to continue the strong and effective partnership with Lovell from Phase 1 and are excited by the prospects of transforming their ideas for the Village Centre area into reality, to create even more pride in Camp Hill”

| The work to be completed by Lovell is one part of the entire regeneration of the former mining area. Pride in Camp Hill is also overseeing the building of 172 new homes by Lovell in Phase One of the project. Also included in Phase One are plans, through private sector partners, to transform a disused quarry into a mixed use area, with residential areas, leisure facilities, including a marina, live/work units, industrial units and office buildings.
There are also plans for a major housing redevelopment project in the final phase of the project.
In addition to physical changes, Pride in Camp Hill is also working to improve the social, educational and economic outlook of the area thanks to training initiatives, new groups and partnerships with the local police, education authority and councils.
The Pride in Camp Hill team, a partnership project between Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Warwickshire County Council, Advantage West Midlands and the Prince’s Foundation, as well as local residents and businesses, is currently using Single Regeneration Budget funds to promote community involvement.
Lovell regional director Chris King said: “We are very pleased to have been chosen as preferred developer for the second phase of this important scheme. We look forward to continuing to build on our highly successful partnership with Pride in Camp Hill as we help deliver the next stage of their comprehensive regeneration programme.”
