Schools that have completed their Travel Plans have the added benefit of participating in various Warwickshire County Council incentive schemes.
One popular method is the Trophy Scheme launched in early 2008. 51 schools have signed up and are already seeing the easier flow of ingress and egress out of school.
The school does a class survey to see how children travel to school at a random time, weekly or half termly. The percentage of children who have travelled sustainably (walking, cycling, by public transport or car sharing) is calculated. In the next school assembly, the class with the highest proportion of sustainable travellers is then awarded the trophy for that week/half term.
The trophy for Key Stage 2 children is a cup and for Key Stage 1 is a cuddly polar bear named Walker. The scheme was devised by All Saints Primary School, Nuneaton and they have installed a trophy shelf in each classroom which looks very empty when compared to the shelf bearing the trophy! | | |
