My dear Father,
I was rather astonished by letter No 1 enclosed and wrote to Mr. Howman to say I had hoped that he would have vacated the Rectory earlier and that I had been making my arrangements in accordance with what he told me being that he should leave at the end of June. Letter No 2 is less (?) unsatisfactory result.
Sol sends me word that Staley thinks it would be too expensive to lay down the gas to the Rectory. I am much obliged to him but I want to know what the cost will be and what the Company are prepared to do in this matter. I applied to him as their Secy to tell me this.
Mr. Howmans letter means that I cannot get into the Rectory till the beginning of Sept. As there must be a months work at least to be done there, and I fear a great deal more than that- I suppose I can do nothing more- I told him that the Parish must needs be suffering all this time, to that he says nought. I shall try and get over soon. Willmot has valued fixtures, but will not value dilapidation till I am instituted I have written again to D.A.
