| Are you in Year 5? Do you like getting involved? Are you a good organiser? Do you like talking to people of all ages? Do you have what it takes to become a Junior Road Safety Officer? If your answer to all of these questions is YES then why not ask your school about joining the Junior Road Safety Officer (JRSO) Scheme. Or email us and we will contact your school to talk to them about the scheme. JRSO's receive a badge, certificate and a road safety activity pack full of ideas and information. If you are a JRSO already, click here for your latest newsletter | ![]() | |
| What does a Junior Road Safety Officer do? Becoming a JRSO is a responsible job and during your one year term of office during Year 6 you will be asked to: 1. Create and maintain a road safety notice board with interesting information each term 2. Arrange and carry out road safety activities/competitions/surveys for people in your school 3. Read out road safety messages in assembly 4. Use the JRSO activity pack to raise road safety awareness to everyone within the school 5. Become a good JRSO representative for the school by setting an example of good road safety practice and, if you want to 6. Set up and run a Road Safety Club in school 7. Get involved in local road safety issues For parents and teachers As part of our on-going commitment to reducing the number of child road casualties in Warwickshire, we are introducing the Junior Road Safety Officer scheme into Primary and Junior schools in 2009. The scheme which has been in operation nationally for over 20 years, has proved to be a successful way of engaging with children to raise awareness of road safety issues. During Year 5, interested pupils complete a simple application form giving the reasons why they think they would be suitable for the position of JRSO in their school. Candidates are then interviewed by a school panel comprising Headteacher, JRSO school helper and out-going JRSO and/or members of the School Council. Successful candidates take up office from September during their Year Six - term of office is for one year. They also have access to one of our Road Safety Agents - a trained adult - who will be able to give advice and support. | ||
