Taking a Break

Our range of services are as varied as our customers. The list below gives a flavour of the kind of support that could be available to you if you require a break from your role:

  • Residential weekend holidays for the person you care for. These breaks may be in a care home or somewhere else.

  • Short breaks that enable the person you look after to go out and take part in leisure activities they enjoy.

  • Sitting services by qualified care staff, who allow the person you look after to stay in the familiar surroundings of their own home, whilst you take a break.

  • Day care for the person you look after to go to a centre or stay in a residential setting, enjoying time with friends or learning new skills.

  • One-off payments that you can receive to provide your choice of support, to assist you in your caring role. These payments may also be spent on leisure activities such as going to the gym, or on white goods such as a new washing machine.

  • Home-based breaks of up to 72 hours for you - day and night, in your own home. Qualified care staff can come in and take over looking after your loved one in your own home, whilst you take a well needed break.

  • Carers Emergency Plan which offers you the opportunity to plan with a member of staff the actions you wish to be taken in the event of you being temporarily unable to provide care e.g. illness or hospital admission.
If you require any of these services, please contact your local social work team. Depending on the type of support you require, you or the person you care for may need to have an assessment from a member of the team.

Your local social work team can be contacted via our Customer Service Centre on 01926 410 410.
