 | March 2010 update
The Warwickshire Wood Fuel Coop anticipate they will have an on-going chip supply at 30% moisture content from August / September 2010 of around 400 tonnes a year, building to 1,200 tonnes in time. The new Manager for Warwickshire Wood Fuels Ltd is Robert Williams, Tel: 0 7767 625 014. There is also 500 tonnes from another private estate plus whatever Midlands Wood Fuel can supply. There's also 400 tonnes available in East Staffordshire from the Rethink project which could be transportable to the north of the Warwickshire.

The Partnership's third birthday on July 3rd 2009 at Merevale Hall, Atherstone, celebrated the continuing development of the wood fuel supply chain in Warwickshire. Speakers from the Merevale & Blyth estate, Godfrey-Payton, Encraft (using the BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2009), Warwickshire County Council, The Forestry Commission, Biofuels Media Ltd., Green Energy Supplies and Midlands Wood Fuel gave the maximum capacity audience a range of interesting presentations on both fuel supply and stimulating demand.
Encraft's Warwickshire Biomass Market Development report (74 KB) was published following the Warwickshire Biomass Heating Support Group's second market development event. The event, which was also facilitated by Encraft at Moreton Morell on 15 November 2007, identified and quantified a significant market for biomass in the county - around £6.8 million per annum for fuel and £10 million per annum for installations and maintenance. The report notes that barriers on the supply and demand side to market development still exist in the county and will need to be overcome.
Background to the Project
Biomass heating feasibility studies, funded by Energy West Midlands, were initially carried out by the Marches Wood Energy Network. A market development event was then held on 30th May 2006 at Warwickshire College, Moreton Morrell Hall.
Considerable interest was expressed in establishing a biomass supply infrastructure in the county, thus making it easier for public building projects to incorporate biomass into building energy systems. Sixteen of the organisations that were represented at the event expressed an interest in participating in a local biomass heating support group.
The Warwickshire & Coventry Biomass Heating Support Group was subsequently initiated and had its first meeting on the 4th December 2006.
The main aims of the group are to:
- Support organisations in Warwickshire and Coventry that wish to implement biomass heating systems resulting from the feasibility studies.
- Encourage and support other organisations in Warwickshire and Coventry that wish to investigate the potential for biomass heating systems.
- Encourage and support those organisations in Warwickshire and Coventry that will be involved in the provision of fuel for any installed biomass system.

Biomass Market Development Event
The second market development event, supported by the Warwickshire Biomass Heating Support Group and facilitated by Encraft, was held at Moreton Morell on 15th November 2007. The agenda (73 KB) included presentations, workshops, demonstrations and a tour of the new wood-fuelled boiler installation. Below are links to the presentations given on the day:
