Health Effects of Climate Change in the West Midlands, summary report Climate change is perhaps the most significant long-term risk that the West Midlands will face in this century. Although widely viewed as just an environmental issue, climate change has consequences for the health of the population of our Region. These health impacts are already apparent in the West Midlands and their magnitude will only increase as the century progresses.
House of Commons Report - Adapting to Climate Change, Regardless of how successful we are in efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, climate change will affect people, business and public services in the future. The need to adapt to climate change is poorly understood by the public, much of business and many in the public sector. The Government must build awareness and support for the wide-ranging and urgent programme of action that is needed. It must make it clear, that if we are to protect people, property and prosperity and safeguard the natural environment, adapting to climate change is at least as essential as cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

Climate Change and Indigenous People, Survival International Report, 2009. Indigenous people are on the frontline of climate change. Living in parts of the world where its impacts are greatest and depending largely, or exclusively, on the natural environment for their livelihoods, culture and lives, they are more vulnerable to climate change than anyone else on earth.
Combating Climate Change - a role for UK forests, Read Report, November 2009. This report examines the abilities of the UK’s trees, forests and forest products to absorb and retain the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. What emerges is an urgent need to increase the extent of forest cover in the UK so that we can make an appropriate contribution to the global requirement for mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions.

changes to our planet over the next 1,000 years. We have then considered how engineers might help adapt our world to these changes over the next few centuries.
Impact Assessment of PPS1 Planning and Climate Change. Climate change is the greatest long-term challenge facing the world today. Used positively, planning has a significant contribution to make both to meeting the UK’s emissions targets and to ensuring sustainable communities appropriate for the climate change now accepted as inevitable. Planning is one of the elements required in a successful response to climate change because of its ability to influence the location, scale, mix and character of development.
