Sessional Work with Young People and their Families

What do sessional workers do?

Sessional workers:
  • work closely with social workers to help young people to stay in their own homes, foster placement or in their communities;
  • work to the same standards and values as the Children, Young People & Families Services Department (previously Social Services Department);
  • provide opportunities for young people to develop existing and new skills through practical experiences;
  • respect young people's age, religion, disability, sex, sexual preference, culture and ethnic background;
  • work in partnership with young people and their families or carers;
  • provide a confidential service in line with Children, Young People & Families Services (previously Social Services) guidelines; and
  • provide support that is reviewed regularly and based on need.
Examples of their work:
  • help young people to develop hobbies and interests;
  • help build young people's self-confidence;
  • visit local parks and places of interest;
  • help develop a young person's social skills

How do I ask for a sessional worker to become involved with me and my family?

The Sessional Work Service is available in all five Districts of Warwickshire. Speak to your social worker about how a sessional worker could support you and your family.

Who are sessional workers?

Sessional workers are people who:
  • live in the local community and come from a variety of backgrounds;
  • have been checked by Children, Young People & Families Services (previously Social Services) to make sure they are suitable to work with young people; and
  • have been provided with training and support to develop their own skills and knowledge.
How do I find out more about becoming a sessional worker?

Do you think you could help people make the most of themselves?

If you do, please contact your local Children's Team Office who will put you in touch with your District Co-ordinator.
