Coughton Court is the ancestral home of the Throckmorton family, whose past family members were directly involved in the gunpowder plot. Sir Everard Digby was living at the house at the time of the plot and was to use it as a base from which to launch the Midlands uprising. Coughton Court is marking the 400th anniversary with a series of events during 2005.

5 November: Fireworks spectacular, 1605 Gunpowder Plot Fayre and the Historia Theatre Company performing 'Five Eleven'.
A new play to mark the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot. This play looks at the subject of terrorism in a 17th Century context. It tells the story of the Gunpowder Pot from its inception by the charismatic Robert Catesby, to the discovery of Guy Fawkes in the cellars below the Houses of Parliament and finally the shoot out as the plotters fled desperately to avoid capture.

9 March - 5 November: Gunpowder season
Shakespeare and his contempories were dramatists during some of England's most troubled times. 400 years on, the RSC presents an explosive season of political drama featuring five plays from both then and now, running in repertoire throughout the season. The season culminates in a specially commissioned new play written by Frank McGuinness, with its final performance on Saturday 5th November.
1 September - 5 November: 'Speaking Like Magpies' by Frank McGuinness. Specially commissioned for the Swan Theatre, Frank McGuinness' new play deals with the background to the infamous Gunpowder Plot of 1605.
20 July - 5 November: Sejanus - His Fall

Both Rugby and nearby Dunchurch village will be celebrating the anniversary in style with a series of events that are being held during October leading up to 5 November 2005.
Saturday 15 October Fun and Fireworks: Come and build a 3D firework using a variety of skills and materials at Rugby Art Gallery & Museum, 11am - 3pm. Go away fizzing having had fun and made your own creation.
17 October - 3 November: Local Junior schools and children's groups will be putting the finishing touches to their entry in 'Build a Guy' competition. Entries to be displayed on Dunchurch Village Green prior to the main event on 5 November
Saturday 22 October: Medieval Day at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, 11am - 3pm. A full day of medieval cookery, spinning and weaving, storytelling and poetry along with demonstrations of medieval foot combat.
Tuesday 25 October: Tudor Day at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, times 10am - 4pm. Learn about traditional quills and calligraphy as well as the art of Tudor sweet making with Calliscioni, the Tudor Confectioners, in this free drop-in workshop.
Saturday 29 October: Light Up The Sky at Rugby Art Gallery & Museum, 10am - 4pm. Using paints, collage and other materials compose your own artwork inspired by the sights and sounds of Guy Fawkes night.
29 October - 3 November: Gunpowder plot window display competition, Local businesses and organisations prepare to mark the occasion in the heart of the village and decorate their shop display windows.
Saturday 5 November: Proceedings start with a procession of local children dressed in themed fancy-dress, walking from Dunchurch Village Green to the Dunchurch Park Hotel, ready to help Rugby's Mayor open the event.
Main event: Dunchurch Park Hotel will be hosting a family day of themed historical attractions including the creation of a Tudor/Stuart village, a specially commissioned short play telling the story of the plot by the children of Dunchurch Primary, historical demonstrations, ‘have-a-go’ activities and much, much more. Times 10.30 - 5pm.
This culminates in a spectacular finale to the day at Whitehall Recreation Ground where Rugby Round Table 113 will be holding their annual fund-raising firework extravaganza (Please see below).

This famous long standing event is a spectacular that cannot be missed as £5,000 of fireworks go up in smoke!

A living history group brings the era to life and reveals the weapons, medical treatments, fashion and flavours of the time. Staged in and around the Coombe Park Visitors Centre, hear how the ambitious plans to kidnap the young Princess Elizabeth were foiled and what would have happened if the gunpowder plot had been successful.
