Parents or guardians have to “secure the education of their children” of “compulsory school age”. For most children this means that they attend a school but a few parents do take on the responsibility of educating their own children.
If your child is below statutory school age (the September after his or her fifth birthday) then you do not have to do anything, although it is helpful if you write to your Local Authority stating that you intend to educate your child at home from such and such a date, and give details of your child.
If your child is on the roll of a school you must notify the school that you are withdrawing your child to educate them other than at school. An LA representative will normally visit you by arrangement and discuss the provision being made with you. They may be able to offer advice and guidance, if you need it.

The Authority has to be satisfied that you are fulfilling your duty to educate your child. We are not responsible for telling you how to do this, but we are pleased to help you by providing links to the main sites for home teaching.
