Medical technologies comprises businesses that operate in the market for any instrument, apparatus, material or other article, whether used alone or in combination, including the software necessary for its proper application intended by the manufacturer to be used for human beings for the purpose of diagnosis, investigation, monitoring and treatment.
The West Midlands is internationally recognised for expertise in medical and healthcare technologies. CSW is an emerging medical technologies hub, with a wealth of industry skills.
The CSW sub-region is a prime business location in the UK, and is home to over 350 medical and healthcare companies.

Heart of medical technologies
CSW has significant strengths in R&D and is a centre of expertise for clinical trials. The new University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) has a national and international reputation in the fields of cancer, stroke, eurosciences, diabetes and kidney transplants. UHCW works closely with Coventry University, and the University of Warwick Medical School, which is one of the UK’s leading research universities.
Heart of medical industry
CSW is home to a wide range of companies operating within the medical technologies sector. The main industries represented across CSW are medical, engineering and ICT (hardware / software). There are also emerging clusters of healthcare, bio-pharmaceutical & electronics companies in the sub- region

The proposed MediPark at Ansty is a key opportunity for the CSW sub-region. The site is located adjacent to UHCW and the M6 motorway, and offers good accessibility to a highly educated and diverse workforce.
