Promoting Warwickshire’s Historic Environment
Over the last couple of years the Warwickshire Historic Environment Record has engaged with new audiences and increased public awareness of the type and range of resources held. With the support of external funding sources, the HER has completed a range of projects all designed to encourage a better understanding of Warwickshire's archaeology and local history.
Imaging our past and present
A new photography project looking at the historic buildings and landscapes people feel are important in the county.
Warwickshire Historic Towns Project
An exciting new study, the Warwickshire Historic Towns project, has started which aims to chart the development of a number of Warwickshire’s historic towns from the Roman period until the present day.
Historic Farmstead Characterisation
Currently the HER is researching historic farm buildings in Warwickshire and Solihull through the Historic Farmstead Characterisation Project, funded by Advantage West Midlands and English Heritage.
Historic Landscape Characterisation
Mapping of current and past land use has recently been undertaken for all of Warwickshire through the Historic Landscape Characterisation Project, funded by English Heritage.
Outreach and Education
Staff at the HER are always keen to promote Warwickshire’s archaeology to the public and to involve local communities. To date this has been through a variety of externally funded projects. There have been a number of successes most notably the publication of two archaeological comics and a documentary research training guide.
The Archaeology of Warwickshire’s Aggregate Landscapes
In 2008 Warwickshire Museum Field Services completed an assessment of the archaeology associated with aggregate minerals in Warwickshire and Solihull. This assessment involved the characterisation, digital mapping and analysis of the resource and the creation of a final report.
