'Preparing for Emergencies - What you need to know' has been developed jointly by Government and a wide range of experts to provide practical advice for the public on how to prepare and deal with emergencies. The booklet has not been produced in response to any specific or heightened threat to the UK but as a responsible exercise in ensuring the public is well informed in a sensible and helpful manner.
	"Public Safety & Security is the number one concern for Government. The practical advice in this booklet will allow people to make sensible preparations that will help them with a range of emergencies, such as fires, as well as terrorist incidents" (David Blunkett - Home Secretary)

	The booklet has been distributed to all 25 million households in the UK in 2004, and copies are also available at libraries and Citizen Advice Bureaus, or can be downloaded from the web. Preparing for Emergencies Alternatively copies can be ordered by calling 0800 887777
