Community Links
Community Links is the door-to-door community transport service for all residents who may be stuck for transport in Stratford District. Community Links' five vehicles are fully accessible for people with mobility problems, and our drivers will be happy to help, but please do let us know if you need assistance and/or are a wheelchair user when you make your booking. The scheme is aimed at those who:
- Have a general need for local transport
- Cannot access public transport because of mobility problems or other issues
- Live in an isolated location with no other form of transport available.
If you know of a friend or neighbour who fits with these criteria please let them know about the scheme too. They can obtain information and a registration form by phoning 01789 264491.
Once you've joined, book your Community Links journey by phoning the Project Coordinator on 01789 264491 on any weekday between 9am and 4pm. It would help them to help you if you could try to give three working days notice.
The service can be used for a wide variety of journey purposes - visiting friends, attending social groups or leisure activities, lifelong learning and, of course, shopping.
But please note it's not for health trips. The Volunteer Centre Medical Journey Scheme operates day centre and hospital related appointments. Contact Clarissa Roberts on 01789 296334.

Age Concern Warwickshire
Age Concern are acutely aware of the needs of older and disabled people and transport is an important aspect in helping to alleviate social and rural isolation. In order to cater for such needs Age Concern have based disabled-access minibuses across Warwickshire, including Stratford and Bidford.
The minibus fleet is driven by volunteer drivers who have been certificated to the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS). The vehicles are for hire to transport older or disabled people to Day Clubs, Day/Shopping Trips, Garden Centres and Pub Lunches.
For further information contact Roger Lee on 01926 311 101 or 07969 393 862
Back and 4th Transport
Back and 4th Transport offer transport to individuals and community groups in the Stratford District, who cannot travel conventionally because they are elderly or disabled, rurally or socially isolated or unable to afford commercial transport. Purposes for which vehicles can be hired include education, medical appointments, group outings and other social activities.
We have a number of vehicles in service - one 7-seater Mercedes Vito (a taxi-sized, accessible vehicle) and several 17-seater minibuses including two Mercedes Sprinters and a brand new Fiat Ducato acquired in 2009.
Many of our customers liked to travel in the quirky but very smooth-riding Fiat Rohill but it became unviable earlier this year. Too many maintenance problems meant its last trip in our service was to auction. They don't make them like that any more!
Our vehicle seating arrangements are flexible and fully adaptable for wheelchairs.
If you'd like a copy of any of our service information leaflets or just want to arrange a ride, please contact:

Wheelchair Accessible Bus Services |
Flexibus
Flexibus is the name of the County Council's scheme of wheelchair accessible bus services. The bus services are run of behalf of Warwickshire County Council by the A & M Group using buses with special modifications.
Flexibus services are open to everyone but are particularly helpful to people with mobility problems. To help people who find steps difficult or impossible, the bus used is equipped with an electric lift to help passengers on board. A trained, friendly care assistant is also on hand to help passengers on and off and to assist inside the bus.
There are around 45 Flexibus routes in the County, taking people from rural areas to nearby towns and providing people with mobility problems, even within town areas, the opportunity to visit the local supermarket or high street to undertake their personal business without having to rely on other people.
Although all the routes have a fixed destination point and certain specific boarding points, the buses can divert off route to collect people with mobility problems - you don't have to be a wheelchair user - from their homes. This has to be pre-booked before 0900 on the day of travel. Fares on Flexibus are no dearer than conventional bus services. The telephone number 0500 21 22 25 for bookings and enquiries is even free.

Shipston Link
Shipston Link has run since 1986, established to provide a community transport service for Shipston and the surrounding villages. Nine routes are operated weekly, including services to Banbury and Chipping Norton. Those without their own transport or suitable bus services have found "the Link" a lifeline for shopping, visiting the doctor or dentist, collecting prescriptions or just getting out.
Their drivers are all volunteers, friendly and ready to help every passenger. Among their users are older persons, people with a mobility problem, busy mums with shopping and children, and others.
They are not profit making. The County Council supports the service and publishes timetable details in its BusTimes leaflet series and on the Public Transport webpages.
For any other information, or if you are interested in becoming a volunteer driver, contact David Gardner on 01608 661372. | |
