On the 26th April 2004 ‘Area Risk Teams’ were put in place across the County, operating from the five main District areas of Nuneaton, North Warwickshire, Rugby, Warwick and Stratford upon Avon. Each Area Risk Team comprises of an Area Risk Manager, Operational Officers, Firefighters and Support Staff.
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Authority’s ‘Integrated Risk Management Plan’ (IRMP), sets out the modernisation agenda for WFRS with a key focus on risk reduction, through prevention, protection and intervention initiatives. The increased focus on local needs provided by the Area Risk Teams will be supported from other departments of the Fire and Rescue Service.
The main task of these teams is to reduce risk to the community of Warwickshire and those who visit or work in the County. This will be achieved by the key Prevention objectives of the ‘IRMP’ and subsequent Action Plans relating to:-
Increased emphasis on Community Fire Safety awareness and education.
Home Fire Safety Checks and smoke alarm ownership that will target high risk groups.
The implementation of risk based fire safety enforcement procedures for commercial and high risk premises.
Further develop the youth work being undertaken by the Service to ensure it contributes to the reduction of risk of fire and other incidents.
Expansion of the highly regarded Schools Programme.
Reduce the number of False Alarm Calls originating from automatic fire alarm systems.
In thier first year the Area Risk Teams have had a positive effect on reducing risk within Warwickshire and also increasing fire safety activities such as Home Fire Safety Checks and smoke alarm installation. As we now embark on the Year Three Action Plan their good work will be sustained and expanded. | |
