Services for Parents

Welcome to the Integrated Disability Service (Teaching and Learning) Parent Information pages. We hope that this web site provides you with the information that you need.

The Service provides support for pupils with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, communication difficulties (which includes pupils with autistic spectrum disorders and specific language disorders ) and children with complex learning difficulties.

Referrals are received from schools when pupils are failing to make satisfactory progress at “school action”. Schools must however obtain the consent of all who have parental responsibility before making any referral. You will be fully consulted about this course of action. This discussion will usually take place at a meeting in school called to review your child’s progress with their individual education plan. The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator in your child’s school will usually be your first point of contact about this. Schools will not usually refer pupils to us simply because the pupil has a diagnosis or a particular condition. We are concerned with the impact of the diagnosis or need on the pupil's ability to learn and succeed in school.

Partnership with Parents:

Whenever we work with a Warwickshire pupil we make the following commitment to parents.
  • We offer to meet parents in school or make a home visit both to introduce our service and to provide a name, a face and a telephone number for future contact.
  • We provide all parents with documentation about our service.
  • We gather information from parents and listen carefully to their concerns.
  • We share all assessment and planning advice with parents.
  • Whenever possible we welcome the active involvement of parents in the IEP and Annual Review.
  • We help parents to make contact with support groups, voluntary associations and the Warwickshire Parent Partnership scheme.
  • We consult a sample of parents every year to check on their satisfaction with our service.
