What are Extended Services?
The Government wants all schools to provide access to the core offer of services, listed here, by 2010.
Extended services and activities can be organised and delivered directly, and / or by schools working in partnership with existing local private or voluntary sector providers, via school clusters and / or third parties. (TDA) Contact details for your Local Cluster Coordinator are listed here
An extended service is one that works in partnership with a wide range of local providers and other schools to provide access to a range of quality services and provision.
Extended Services provide: “a range of activities and services, often beyond the schools day, to help meet the needs of its pupils, their families and the wider community” (DfES) | |
“Reconfiguring, co-locating and facilitating easier access to services around the places where children and young people spend much of their time makes sense in terms of improving outcomes. Extended schools recognise that they need to work with others to improve outcomes for children and young people, their families and communities.” (Every Child Matters DfES)
