I connect to the web with a wireless modem / router. Is this OK ?
Yes - but connecting with a physical telephone line to the internet usually offers a faster, more secure and more stable connection to the internet than using a wireless link.
If your computer loses its connection to the internet, you will probably lose what you have typed in since the last time you saved your form. However, most people are able to log in to our website without reporting any problems, and a significant number of these will have been done wirelessly. If you do need to use a wireless connection, please ensure that you follow all of your hardware manufacturers' recommendations. These will help to guard against hackers, but will not guarantee that your PC stays online 100% of the time.
The system keeps logging me off. What can I do?
To protect your personal data, Warwickshire County Council's website disconnects a Me@WCC ID which it hasn't 'talked' to for a while. If this happens, you will need to log in again. To guard against this, we recommend that you save any forms you are filling in every 15 minutes.
But I am saving it, and it still logs me out. What else can I do?
Between your keyboard and our system is a long chain of technology...
( your keyboard >> your PC >> modem & firewall >> telephone wires >> your Internet Service Provider >> more wires >> other webservers >> even more wires >> WCC Website >> Online Form etc.......)
A problem with any of these could cause you to lose a connection. In addition, they are all looked after by different people. Warwickshire County Council has made every effort to ensure our website and online systems are as robust as possible. The other components on the list are beyond our control. The trick is to try to isolate the part that's having trouble:
