TheExpression of Interest was approved by Government Ministers in August and formal consultation on the proposals started on 21st September.

The Warwickshire Cabinet agreed at their meeting on 26 November to close Manor Park Community School and Specialist Arts College and Alderman Smith School and Sports College subject to the agreement of the Secretary of State agreeing to the establishment of an Academy.

The next stage will be for the Local Authority to issue Statutory Notices regarding the proposed closure of the two schools. The Statutory Notice is likely to be issued on Thursday 7 January 2010. In addition the Sponsor will continue to work with the Department for Children, Schools and Families to develop a funding agreement which we would expect to be signed in March 2010.

*Review of Secondary School Priority Areas in Nuneaton and Hartshill.

The proposal to close Alderman Smith School and Manor Park School and open a new Academy will mean that there is one less school in Nuneaton. The reduction in the total number of schools means that we need to review the priority areas for the remaining schools. This review will take place through until 1 March 2010 with any agreed changes taking effect from September 2011. Copies of the consultation document will be made available in local libraries and at primary and secondary schools in the area.
